I recently got the chance to have some photography done by the talented Dave Blenis showcasing some of my homemade clothes. I was blown away by his photographs. They made my clothes seem legit! I had made this shirt last year prior to my sewing blog, so never got a chance to share it until just now. Though I had made the shirt from scratch, the method of applying an open back bow can be used for any t-shirt refashion and is a fun and easy way to spice up your wardrobe. So read along for my T-Shirt Refashion – Open Back Bow Tutorial!
The skinny:
This t-shirt refashion is really easy to do! The hardest part was sewing the hemline around the opening I had made. For any knit shirts, you don’t need to do this. I just like to keep all my sewing neat, tidy, and hemmed up! Do remember that a little cut goes a long way. I took out a one inch strip from my shirt and after hemming around it, the opening was much larger.
Materials:
- t-shirt you want to cut up
- scissors
- matching thread
Now onto my Open Back Bow Tutorial
Instructions:
When cutting out the small rectangle on the back of the shirt, just be aware that a little cut goes a long way here. I thought I just put in a little slit, and then the back just opened like a butterfly.
Remember, this open back bow t-shirt refashion can be done with any old jersey knit t-shirt you might have laying around. And it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
