For some reason or other, I have a collection of misfit earrings that I don’t wear anymore. Either one has gone missing, or I purchased them online and found them too heavy to wear (my adage “the older I get, the larger my earrings get” has a side effect!). I tend to keep this misfit earring collection because some of these earrings are just so pretty and I hope that either it’s missing partner will miraculously turn up, or I can find some other use for them. Well, I finally found another use for them… upcycle them to a necklace! Read on for my Upcycle Earring to Necklace Tutorial!
The skinny:
This tutorial is something you can do in 20 minutes. No joke. The hardest part is fastening the wire to the necklace clasps.
Materials:
- 1 misfit earring
- necklace wire (I used brass and silver spools)
- necklace clasp (I used a springring and a small metal ring)
- another small metal ring (to fasten the earring to the wire)
- jewelry pliers

Instructions:
1. Figure out how long you want your necklace to be and add 2″ for buffer. Using your pliers, cut two pieces of necklace wire to that length. Mine was 22″.
2. Take both wires, and tie them to the small metal ring that the springring will attach to. I used my pliers to help me tighten the knot. Cut off any loose ends using the pliers.
3. Twist the two wires around each other from one end to the other.
4. Tie the other end to the springring. Cut off any loose ends using the pliers.
5. Take the earring hook off of the earring.
6. Attach the additional small metal ring to the earring.
7. Before closing the metal ring, place the twisted necklace wires in it.
8. Now close up the metal ring and you have yourself a necklace!
